Mercari Fees: How Much Does Mercari Take?
How much does Mercari take? 10% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping, plus label, cash-out and cancelation costs: every 2026 fee, with math.
Quick summary (TL;DR)
- As of 2026, Mercari takes a 10% selling fee on the item price plus any buyer-paid shipping, with no separate payment processing fee for sellers.
- Because the 10% also applies to buyer-paid shipping, cheap items lose a bigger share: on a $10 item with a $7.99 label, the fee is 18% of the item price.
- Buyers pay their own 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping, which doesn't come out of your earnings.
- Direct deposit is free, Instant Pay costs $3 per cash-out, and canceling a sale costs 5% of the item price, up to $25.
- Mercari's USPS label prices rise on October 19, 2026, so recheck shipping on any listing where you pay the label.

Mercari takes a 10% selling fee on the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays, and there's no separate payment processing fee for sellers, as of 2026. How much Mercari takes in total also depends on who pays the label, how you cash out, and whether you ever cancel a sale.
This guide puts every Mercari fee for US sellers in one place, with worked numbers. Mercari announces fee and shipping changes in its Help Center, so confirm there before you reprice a batch.
How much does Mercari take per sale?
Mercari's seller fee is a flat 10%, calculated on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. Mercari switched to this model in 2025 (effective January 6), when it dropped the old seller payment processing fee and started charging buyers a separate Buyer Protection fee.
Here's what you keep at common prices when the buyer pays a $7.99 label, the USPS Ground Advantage rate for a 1 lb package from October 19, 2026:
| Item price | Mercari fee (10% of item + $7.99 shipping) | You keep | Fee as a share of the item price |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10 | $1.80 | $8.20 | 18.0% |
| $25 | $3.30 | $21.70 | 13.2% |
| $50 | $5.80 | $44.20 | 11.6% |
| $100 | $10.80 | $89.20 | 10.8% |
| $500 | $50.80 | $449.20 | 10.2% |
"You keep" is before what you paid for the item, packing supplies and your time. The pattern matters: because the 10% also lands on shipping, the fee takes a noticeably bigger bite out of cheap, heavy items than the headline rate suggests.
Fees are only one part of whether an item is worth listing. Our reselling for profit guide shows how fees, buy price and time fit together before you spend money on inventory.
Does Mercari charge a fee on shipping?
Yes, when the buyer pays it: the 10% applies to buyer-paid shipping as well as the item price. When you choose to pay shipping yourself, the item shows as free shipping, the fee applies to the item price, and the label cost comes out of your earnings.
Example (hypothetical): a $25 sweater ships in a 0.5 lb mailer, which costs $5.99 with USPS Ground Advantage from October 19, 2026.
| Buyer pays shipping | You pay shipping | |
|---|---|---|
| Item price | $25.00 | $25.00 |
| Shipping the buyer pays | $5.99 | $0 |
| Mercari fee | $3.10 (10% of $30.99) | $2.50 (10% of $25) |
| Label deducted from you | $0 | $5.99 |
| You keep | $21.90 | $16.51 |
Free shipping can make a listing stand out, but it costs real money. If you offer it, raise the price to cover the label, or keep it for light items where the label is cheap.
What do Mercari shipping labels cost?
Mercari sells discounted prepaid labels from USPS, UPS and FedEx, priced by weight and service. Every Mercari label includes Shipping Protection of up to $200 per order if the carrier loses or damages the package.
Mercari's fee page lists current USPS prices and new prices that take effect on October 19, 2026:
| Package weight | Ground Advantage now | Ground Advantage from Oct 19, 2026 | Priority Mail now | Priority Mail from Oct 19, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 lb | $4.91 | $5.39 | $5.49 | $6.49 |
| 0.5 lb | $5.66 | $5.99 | $5.99 | $7.49 |
| 1 lb | $7.48 | $7.99 | $7.59 | $8.99 |
UPS and FedEx options cost more for light packages; the app shows every option when you list. Heavier packages, oversized items and items over $200 in value may be better shipped on your own, but then Mercari's Shipping Protection doesn't apply.
Weigh before you choose a label
Weigh the packed item, not just the item. A mailer, tissue and a receipt can push a package into the next weight tier and raise both the label and the 10% fee on buyer-paid shipping.
What does the buyer pay on Mercari?
Buyers pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping, as of 2026. It doesn't come out of your earnings, but it does change what buyers see at checkout.
Example (hypothetical): on the $25 sweater with $5.99 buyer-paid shipping, the buyer pays $25 + $5.99 + about $1.12 in Buyer Protection, roughly $32.11 before any sales tax. That total is what your listing competes against, so a buyer comparing apps may see a higher price on Mercari than the item price alone suggests.
What does it cost to cash out your Mercari earnings?
When the buyer rates the order, or the 72-hour review window ends, the money moves into your Mercari balance. Moving it to your bank is free by direct deposit or $3 by Instant Pay.
| Payout method | Fee (as of 2026) | Speed | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct deposit | Free for successful transfers; $2 if the deposit fails | Typically within 5 business days | Once a day; checking accounts only |
| Instant Pay | $3 per cash-out | Usually within minutes, up to about 30 minutes | Once a day, up to $600 a month; ID verification and a Visa or Mastercard debit card required |
If you don't need the cash right away, direct deposit is the cheapest route. Double-check your bank details: a rejected deposit costs $2.
What other Mercari fees can you run into?
A few charges apply only in specific situations.
Cancelation fee
If you cancel a sale, Mercari's fee page lists a cancelation fee of 5% of the item price, up to $25, and warns that repeated cancelations can get listings removed. The fix is simple: list only items you have in hand and can ship within 3 business days.
Mercari Authenticate
For eligible designer items, Mercari Authenticate costs the seller $5. Authenticated designer items can be listed up to $5,000, above the standard $2,000 price cap, with extra identity verification over $2,000.
Taxes
Mercari's fee isn't the last deduction from your real profit. The IRS says you must report income whether or not you receive a Form 1099-K; platforms must file one when your gross payments exceed $20,000 across more than 200 transactions. If you buy items to resell, Mercari's fee, labels you pay and supplies are generally business expenses, so keep a record of each sale.
How do Mercari's fees compare with Poshmark and Depop?
Mercari's 10% sits between Depop and Poshmark for US sellers. The short version, as of 2026:
| App | Seller fee | Who pays shipping |
|---|---|---|
| Mercari | 10% of item price plus buyer-paid shipping | Buyer or seller, your choice |
| Poshmark | $2.95 under $15; 20% at $15 and up | Buyer pays a flat label for most orders |
| Depop | No selling fee for US sellers since 2024; a payment processing fee still applies | Set when you list |
On a $25 item, Poshmark keeps $5 and you get $20; on Mercari with a $5.99 buyer-paid label you keep $21.90. The cheapest app is only the best one if items like yours actually sell there. If you sell cards, coins or collectibles live, compare with our breakdown of Whatnot fees for sellers. For the full breakdown of the other two, see Poshmark fees and the side-by-side in Depop vs Poshmark vs Mercari.
How can you keep more of each Mercari sale?
You can't negotiate the 10%, but you control what you list, how you ship and how you cash out.
- Price from sold listings, then add the fee. Our guide on how to price items for resale shows how to work out a maximum buy price after fees and shipping.
- Bundle cheap items. One shipment and one fee on a bundle beats several tiny sales that each pay shipping.
- Ship light. Use mailers instead of boxes for soft goods, and weigh before you pick a label.
- Recheck free-shipping listings after the October 19, 2026 label change.
- Cash out by direct deposit unless $3 is worth the speed to you.
- Never cancel if you can avoid it. The fee can reach $25, plus the damage to your account.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Mercari take from a $20 sale?
Mercari takes 10% of the $20 item price plus 10% of any buyer-paid shipping. With a $5.99 buyer-paid label, the fee is about $2.60 and you keep about $17.40, as of 2026.
Does Mercari charge a listing fee?
No. Mercari's fee page lists no fee for listing; the 10% selling fee applies only when an item sells.
Does Mercari take a fee from shipping?
Yes, from buyer-paid shipping: the 10% selling fee is calculated on the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays. If you pay shipping yourself, the label cost is deducted from your earnings instead.
How much is Mercari's Instant Pay fee?
As of 2026, Instant Pay costs $3 per cash-out, is available once a day up to $600 a month, and requires ID verification and a Visa or Mastercard debit card.
Is Mercari cheaper than Poshmark for sellers?
On most items of $15 or more, yes: Mercari's 10% is half of Poshmark's 20% commission. Poshmark's buyer-paid flat label and fashion audience can still make it the better fit for some clothing.
