The best reselling apps depend on what you sell: eBay covers almost every category, Poshmark, Depop, Mercari and Vinted specialize in clothing, and Facebook Marketplace is strongest for bulky items sold locally. Fees range from nothing for some UK private sellers to 20% or more of the sale, so the right app can change your profit on the same item significantly.

eBay: the widest audience

eBay is the most flexible platform: it sells almost every category, supports auctions and fixed price, and lets you choose who pays shipping. It also gives you free sold-price research through its product research tool in Seller Hub.

US fees, as of 2026. The final value fee for most categories is 13.6% of the total sale up to $7,500 (2.35% on the portion above), calculated on the item price, shipping and sales tax. There's also a per-order fee of $0.40 for orders over $10 and $0.30 for $10 or less. Some categories differ: books and music are 15.3%, trading cards 13.25%, and sneakers selling for $150 or more are 8% with no per-order fee. eBay adds 6 percentage points for below-standard sellers and 1.65% for international buyers unless you use eBay International Shipping. You get 250 free listings a month.

UK. Since October 2024 eBay UK has been free for UK-based private sellers (excluding vehicles), with 300 free listings a month. But eBay's business seller policy says you must register as a business if you sell items you bought to resell, and business sellers pay different fees. If you're flipping, check the business seller fee page, not the private one.

Which apps are best for selling clothes?

For clothing, the main choices are Poshmark, Mercari, Depop and, in the UK and Europe, Vinted. They differ mostly in fees, who pays shipping and the style of buyer each attracts.

Poshmark: simple shipping for clothing

Poshmark is built around fashion, with a social feed where sellers share listings and buyers send offers. Its big advantage for beginners is shipping: the buyer pays a flat $6.49 label, per Poshmark's help page, for packages up to 5 lb, and sellers pay any overweight cost.

Fees, as of 2026. A flat $2.95 on sales under $15 and 20% on sales of $15 or more. Sellers in Texas also see a Texas seller fee tax from October 2025, per Poshmark. The 20% rate makes cheap items less attractive; many sellers bundle low-priced pieces.

Mercari: flat 10% on almost anything

Mercari is a general marketplace app with a simple listing flow. Since a fee change in 2025 (effective January 6), it charges a flat 10% selling fee on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping, and buyers pay a separate 3.6% Buyer Protection fee.

It suits beginners who sell a mix of categories and want one fee rate to remember.

Depop and Vinted: low seller fees for fashion

Depop charges no selling fee to sellers based in the US, UK or Australia. You still pay payment processing on the item, shipping and tax: 3.3% + $0.45 in the US and 2.9% + £0.30 in the UK. Boosted listings cost 12% in the US and UK for new listings from March 2026. Depop's audience skews toward vintage, streetwear and trend-led fashion.

Vinted charges UK sellers no selling fee. Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee that Vinted's price list says is typically 3%–8% plus £0.30–£0.80. Sellers pay only for optional visibility features such as bumps. It's a strong choice for everyday clothing, kids' items and accessories in the UK and Europe.

Facebook Marketplace: local and bulky

Facebook Marketplace is where most people sell furniture, appliances, bikes and other items that are expensive to ship. For a local sale where the buyer pays you directly, Meta takes no cut.

Where Marketplace offers shipping and checkout, Meta charges a selling fee on those orders, and the feature isn't available in every country. Check Meta's Help Center for the current rate where you live. Local selling needs its own safety habits: meet in public, bring someone, and take payment before handing over the item. Amazon: new goods, more rules

Amazon suits new or like-new branded products rather than typical thrift finds. It charges either $0.99 per item sold on the Individual plan or $39.99 a month on the Professional plan, plus a referral fee that varies by category. Its pricing page lists referral fees from 5% to 45% depending on category, with a $0.30 minimum in most.

Some categories and brands need approval before you can list, and condition rules for used goods are strict. Most beginners flipping secondhand items find other platforms easier.

How do you choose your first platform?

Choose the platform where your category already sells well, then learn it properly before adding more.

1. Look up sold comps for five items you'd typically source on two or three platforms.

3. Consider effort. Some apps reward daily sharing or quick replies to offers; eBay listings can sit and sell with less daily activity.
4. Start with one. Add a second platform once you've sold your first batch and understand returns and shipping.

Do reselling apps report your sales?

Yes, in many countries. In the US, payment platforms must file Form 1099-K when payments exceed $20,000 across more than 200 transactions, the threshold reinstated by the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, and they may send one below that. In the UK, platforms report sellers who make 30 or more sales or receive more than about £1,700 (€2,000) in a year.
