To sell on Poshmark, create an account in the app, photograph your item, write a listing with the brand, size and condition, and price it from what similar items actually sold for; when it sells, Poshmark emails you a prepaid shipping label and pays you after the buyer accepts the order. Learning how to sell on Poshmark well mostly comes down to three habits: clear photos, realistic prices and shipping fast.
Poshmark is a US marketplace built around clothing, shoes, accessories and some home goods. This guide covers the US app as of 2026; Poshmark Canada has its own fee and shipping pages, so check those if you sell there.
How does selling on Poshmark work?
You list an item in your "closet," buyers find it through search, your shares and offers, and Poshmark handles the payment, the shipping label and the release of your money. You never handle the buyer's card details or buy postage yourself.
Here's what a single sale looks like, as of 2026:
| Stage | What happens | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| List | You add photos, details and a price | A few minutes per item once you're practiced |
| Sale | A buyer purchases or you accept an offer | Days to months, depending on item and price |
| Ship | Poshmark emails a prepaid USPS label; you pack and drop it off | Buyer can cancel from day 8 if unshipped |
| Delivery | USPS Ground Advantage delivers | Usually 2–5 business days |
| Payment released | Buyer accepts, or the order auto-accepts | Within 3 days of delivery |
| Redeem | You move earnings to your bank or card | 2–3 business days by direct deposit |
Poshmark is one platform among several. If you're still deciding whether reselling clothes is worth your time at all, our reselling for profit guide explains how the whole business works, from sourcing to pricing.
How do you set up your Poshmark closet?
Download the app, create an account and choose a username buyers will see on every listing. Then add a profile photo and a short bio that says what you sell and how fast you ship.
A few setup choices save trouble later:
- Pick a lasting username. It appears on every listing and share, so choose something simple and professional.
- Link your payout method early. You'll need a bank account to redeem by direct deposit, or a Visa or Mastercard debit card for Instant Transfer.
- Start with what you own. Listing five to ten items from your own closet teaches you the listing flow, offers and shipping before you spend money sourcing inventory.
How do you create a Poshmark listing that sells?
Tap Sell in the app, add up to 16 photos, then fill in the required fields: title, description, category, size, original price and listing price. A complete, honest listing gets found in search and draws fewer complaints after the sale.
Photos
Poshmark recommends images around 1000 x 1000 pixels. Shoot in daylight on a plain background or a hanger, and include the front, back, brand tag, size tag, fabric tag and every flaw. The first photo is your cover image in search and feeds, so make it clean and well lit.
Title
Titles allow up to 80 characters. Poshmark advises including the brand, style name, category, size and color, which is also what buyers type into search. For example: "Levi's 501 Original Fit Jeans Medium Wash 32x30."
Description
Add measurements (pit to pit, length, inseam), material, fit and condition in plain words. Disclose stains, pilling or repairs and photograph them. Poshmark's returns are limited to items that are not as described, so an accurate description is your best protection.
How should you price items on Poshmark?
Price from sold listings, not active ones. Search the brand and item, filter to sold items, and note what three to five comparable pieces actually sold for in similar condition. Our guide on how to price items for resale walks through sold comps step by step.
Then account for the fee. As of 2026, Poshmark keeps a flat $2.95 on sales under $15 and 20% on sales of $15 or more. We break down every Poshmark charge, including shipping discounts and payout fees, in Poshmark fees explained.
Most buyers on Poshmark send offers, so many sellers list somewhat above the price they'd accept.
Example (hypothetical): sold comps for a sweater cluster around $30. You list it at $36, a buyer offers $28, you counter at $32 and they accept. Poshmark keeps 20%, which is $6.40, so you earn $25.60 before what you paid for the sweater.
Low-priced items rarely pay off alone
The $2.95 flat fee is a large share of a $6 or $8 sale. Many sellers bundle cheap pieces together or list them only when the item is worth at least $15.
How do you get buyers to see your listings?
Listing an item isn't enough; Poshmark rewards activity. The main tools are sharing, Posh Parties and offers, and most of them take a few minutes every day.
- Sharing. Sharing pushes your listing back into followers' feeds. Many sellers share their whole closet regularly, which is repetitive but free.
- Posh Parties. Poshmark runs 4 themed parties a day by brand, category or trend, per its 2026 features guide. Share matching listings into the party while it's live.
- Offer to Likers. When someone likes your item, you can send all likers a private offer. Poshmark requires the offer to be at least 10% below the current price (or the lowest offer the buyer has received on that listing in the past 90 days) and to include a shipping discount, which comes out of your earnings. Offers expire after 24 hours.
- Bundles. Buyers can combine several of your items into one order with one shipping label, and you can set a bundle discount to encourage it.
- Vacation Hold. If you'll be away and can't ship, pause your closet so listings show as not for sale.
Be realistic about effort. Daily sharing and offers can take an hour or more once your closet is large, and there's no set number of shares that produces a sale. Results depend on the brands you carry, your prices and your photos.
How do you ship a Poshmark order?
When an item sells, Poshmark emails you a prepaid, pre-addressed USPS label. Print it, pack the item, attach the label and drop it at USPS or schedule a pickup.
What to know about Poshmark shipping, as of 2026:
- The buyer pays the label. It's a flat $6.49 for orders shipped by USPS Ground Advantage, which typically takes 2–5 business days.
- Watch the weight. One label covers up to 5 lb, including bundles. If the package is heavier, the overweight cost is charged to you, the seller. Weigh coats, boots and bundles before you accept a sale.
- Ship fast. If an order hasn't shipped by the start of the 8th day after purchase, the buyer can cancel for a full refund.
- Reuse boxes carefully. Remove or fully cover old labels and barcodes so USPS scans the right one.
Pack clothing folded in a clean poly mailer or box, and add a short thank-you note if you like. Neat packaging won't replace an accurate listing, but it makes a good first impression on buyers who may leave you a rating.
When and how does Poshmark pay you?
Poshmark holds the buyer's payment until delivery. After the buyer receives the item and accepts it, or after 3 days if they do nothing, Poshmark releases the money to your Poshmark balance.
You can then redeem it by direct deposit (typically 2–3 business days), by check, or for a transfer fee through Instant Transfer, PayPal or Venmo. Poshmark lists these transfer fees on its payout pages, and our Poshmark fees guide compares them.
What if a buyer is unhappy?
A buyer can open a case within 3 days of delivery if an item is not as described, damaged in a way you didn't disclose, the wrong item or not authentic. Poshmark's standard policy doesn't cover returns for fit or a change of mind. Poshmark reviews the evidence from both sides, and an accurate listing with clear photos is what protects you. Do you pay taxes on Poshmark sales?
You must report taxable income whether or not you receive a Form 1099-K, the IRS says. In the US, platforms must file a 1099-K when your gross payments exceed $20,000 across more than 200 transactions, and they may send one below that. Selling your own used clothes for less than you paid usually produces no gain, but buying items to resell is generally business income; keep records of what you paid, fees and supplies.
What sells on Poshmark for beginners?
Brand-name clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories in good condition are Poshmark's core, and buyers search by brand. Items with a recognizable label, clean condition and a clear size are the easiest to start with.
Before you buy anything to resell, check sold listings for the brand on Poshmark and skip anything with heavy wear or a high-value brand you can't authenticate. Our guide to thrift flipping shows how to source clothing cheaply and inspect it before you pay.
