How to Sell on TikTok Shop LIVE: A Beginner's Guide
TikTok Shop LIVE lets you sell during a livestream with products pinned on screen. Who can go LIVE, setup, tools, rules and how to run your first stream.
Quick summary (TL;DR)
- TikTok Shop LIVE is live selling inside TikTok: you stream, pin products on screen, and viewers buy without leaving the app.
- Sellers can go LIVE from a shop's linked official or marketing account with no follower minimum; US affiliates need 1,000 followers and start in a pilot capped at 3 shoppable LIVEs a week, as of 2026.
- You need at least one product added to the LIVE, a steady phone or camera, good light and clear audio; LIVE Manager on desktop adds scheduling, pinning, flash sales and analytics.
- Pre-recorded or looped footage, misleading claims, off-topic promotion and vague product details are among the most common LIVE violations.
- LIVE takes more preparation than short videos, so most beginners start with short streams, a few products and a simple plan.

TikTok Shop LIVE is TikTok's live shopping feature: you stream in real time, pin products on screen, and viewers tap to buy without leaving the app. Sellers use TikTok Shop LIVE to demo their own products, and affiliate creators use it to sell other shops' products for a commission.
It's the closest thing TikTok has to a TV shopping channel run from your phone. It can sell products that need explaining, because viewers can ask questions and see answers immediately. It is also more demanding than posting short videos. This guide covers who can go LIVE, what to set up, the tools you get, the rules that get streams restricted, and how to run your first one. Rules are for the US as of 2026 unless noted.
What is TikTok Shop LIVE and how does it work?
A TikTok Shop LIVE is a livestream with a product bag attached. You add products before you start, pin the one you're showing, and viewers buy from the pinned card or the bag while you keep talking.
The flow looks like this:
- Before the stream, you add products to the LIVE and plan the order you'll show them.
- During the stream, you demo a product, pin it so it appears on screen, answer comments and move to the next one.
- Viewers buy from the pinned product or the shopping bag, using TikTok Shop's normal checkout.
- After the stream, sellers ship the orders; affiliates earn commission once orders are delivered and not refunded.
LIVE can also be used for flash sales and giveaways, covered below.
Who can sell on TikTok Shop LIVE?
It depends on your role. Sellers can go LIVE from the TikTok account bound to their shop with no follower minimum; affiliate creators need to be in the affiliate program first.
| Role | Follower minimum | LIVE limits for beginners |
|---|---|---|
| Seller's official account (bound to the shop, same name) | None to bind | Can go LIVE once the bind passes compliance checks |
| Marketing account (bound by the seller) | None to bind | Can go LIVE with that shop's products |
| Affiliate creator, under 5,000 followers | 1,000 to self-apply | Pilot: up to 3 shoppable LIVEs per week |
| Affiliate creator in the extended pilot | 1,000 to self-apply | Up to 1 shoppable LIVE per week |
Everyone must be at least 18. TikTok's LIVE Safety Guide also says general LIVE access requires a certain number of followers that varies by market, which is why bound shop accounts are the usual route for new sellers.
For new affiliates, LIVE is also a way out of the pilot: one of the graduation tasks is promoting products in at least one LIVE that lasts 5 minutes or more. The other conditions, including 5,000 followers and 30 days in the program, are explained in how to become a TikTok Shop affiliate.
What do you need before your first TikTok Shop LIVE?
At minimum: at least one product added to the LIVE, a steady phone, good lighting and clear sound. A plan for what you'll say matters as much as the gear.
Equipment
- Phone on a stand or tripod. Shaky footage is one of TikTok's listed quality problems.
- Light facing you and the product. A window or a cheap ring light works.
- A microphone or quiet room. Background noise is another listed quality issue.
- Products within reach, unboxed, with any props you need for demos.
Products
TikTok's LIVE Manager guide says you must add at least 1 product to your LIVE and recommends at least 10. For a first stream, three to five products you know well is more manageable. Choose items with a visible result you can show live; our guide to the best products to sell on TikTok Shop covers what tends to work.
LIVE Manager and the LIVE selling hub
Sellers can find a LIVE selling hub in Seller Center under LIVE & video, with a short tutorial, a checklist and access to LIVE Manager. LIVE Manager is a desktop tool for running streams: you can start immediately or schedule events, test in Practice Mode, and use streaming software through OBS Virtual Camera. According to TikTok's guide, mobile events set up through it need to be scheduled 2 hours in advance.
How do you run a TikTok Shop LIVE, step by step?
Plan a simple running order, demo one product at a time, pin it while you talk about it, and repeat the key points for people who just joined.
1. Write a running order
List the products in order, with two or three points for each: what problem it solves, the demo you'll do, and the price or offer. Keep it on a card or second screen.
2. Open strong
The first minute decides whether early viewers stay. Say what you're showing today and demo the most visual product first rather than waiting for the room to fill.
3. Demo, pin, repeat
Show the product working, pin it, and say how to buy from the pinned card. Every few minutes, new people arrive with no context, so repeat the demo and the main points. Cover what TikTok's LIVE guidance asks for: selling points, price, how to use it and its features.
4. Answer comments
Questions are the reason LIVE sells. Read them aloud and answer honestly, including "it won't do that". TikTok's LIVE Safety Guide lets you add moderators, but they must be friends or mutual followers.
5. Disclose and close
If you earn commission, say so at the start and repeat it during the stream; the FTC says livestream disclosures should be repeated periodically. End with a recap of the products and thank viewers.
What tools can you use during a LIVE?
LIVE Manager gives sellers and creators tools to pin products, run promotions and watch results in real time.
| Tool | What it does | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pin product | Shows the product card on screen | Pin the item you're currently demoing |
| Product list | Reorder or remove products during the stream | Keep the bag short and relevant |
| Flash sale | Time-limited price during the LIVE | Needs inventory the seller sets aside for it |
| Giveaways | Prizes with set winner counts and entry rules | Follow TikTok's rules and local laws |
| Comments and activity feed | Shows comments, orders, follows and gifts | Useful for spotting common questions |
| Analytics | Tracks viewers and sales (GMV) | Review after each stream |
Coupons and vouchers are also mentioned in TikTok's LIVE selling hub. What's available can differ by account type and market, so check the options in your LIVE Manager.
What rules get TikTok Shop LIVEs restricted?
TikTok Shop lists five common LIVE violations: irrelevant promotion, replayed content, poor production, misleading claims and vague product descriptions. Breaking them can limit your stream's reach or your selling permissions.
- Irrelevant promotion. Stay on the products you added; don't drift into unrelated sales pitches.
- Content replay. Don't use pre-recorded or looped audio or video. TikTok Shop's guidance is to go LIVE and engage in real time.
- Poor production. Blurry, dark, shaky or noisy streams are flagged.
- Misleading functionality. No medical or weight-loss claims, and nothing the product can't do.
- Vague descriptions. Viewers need enough detail to decide: price, use, features and limits.
Your claims also have to match the product page, the same rule that applies to short videos. For how that works in short-form content, see how to make videos that sell on TikTok Shop.
How do you know if a LIVE worked?
Judge a LIVE by orders and questions answered, not by peak viewers. Compare a few streams before deciding anything, because one quiet stream tells you little.
After each stream, note:
- Viewers and watch time: are people staying past the first minute?
- Product clicks and orders per product: which demos convert?
- Questions asked: turn repeated questions into short videos and better product descriptions.
- Refunds later: a product that sells live but comes back isn't a win.
Example (hypothetical): a 30-minute LIVE averages 25 viewers at a time and sells 6 units of a $20 product at a 15% affiliate commission. That's $120 in sales and $18 in commission before any refunds. Small, and typical of how early streams can look; results depend on your products, audience and practice, and many first LIVEs sell nothing.
Next steps
Start small: a short stream, three products you know, and a written running order. Treat the first few LIVEs as practice and improve one thing each time.

Frequently asked questions
How many followers do you need to go LIVE on TikTok Shop?
It depends on your role. A shop's bound official or marketing account has no follower minimum, US affiliate creators need 1,000 followers to join the affiliate program, and TikTok's general LIVE access requires a follower count that varies by market.
How long should a TikTok Shop LIVE be?
There's no single right length. For US affiliates in the pilot, one way to graduate is a LIVE promoting products that lasts at least 5 minutes; beginners often start short and extend as they get comfortable.
Can you use a pre-recorded video on TikTok Shop LIVE?
No. TikTok Shop lists pre-recorded or looped audio and visuals as a common LIVE violation. LIVEs must be real-time content.
Do you need special equipment for TikTok Shop LIVE?
No. A phone on a stable stand, good lighting and a clear microphone are enough to start. LIVE Manager on desktop also supports streaming software through OBS Virtual Camera if you later want a camera setup.
Do you have to disclose commissions on a LIVE?
Yes, in the US. The FTC says disclosures in livestreams should be repeated periodically so people who join partway through still hear them.
