Steps at a glance
- 1Choose the right track. Apply as an Affiliate if most of your traffic comes from a website or blog, or to Creator Collective if it comes from social media.
- 2Check eligibility. Be at least 18 or the age of majority where you live, publish your own content on an authorized channel, and meet the 500-follower minimum if you apply as a creator.
- 3Apply for your region. Use the sign-up link on etsy.com/affiliates, select your region, and declare any Etsy shops you own.
- 4Wait for review, then add links. Etsy reviews site type, quality and brand fit. Once approved, use the program's links, disclose them and set your payment method.
The Etsy affiliate program pays you a commission on qualifying sales that come from your links to Etsy listings, shops and pages. As of 2026, Etsy runs it as two tracks: Etsy Affiliates for blogs, media and editorial sites, and Creator Collective for social media creators with at least 500 followers on one authorized channel.
It suits gift guides, home decor, weddings, crafts and anyone whose audience loves handmade or vintage finds. This guide covers which track to pick, what Etsy pays, how long the cookie lasts, what the rules ban and how to promote Etsy items without breaking them.
What are Etsy's two affiliate programs?

Etsy's affiliate policy adds a tiebreaker: if 51% or more of your sales come from social media, you must apply to Creator Collective and verify at least one social handle.
Which network runs it?
The help center and the 2026 sign-up page point to Rakuten Advertising: you agree to Rakuten's terms, track sales in a Rakuten account and choose direct deposit, PayPal or check there. Etsy's written affiliate policy, last updated in May of 2024, still names Awin. Go by the sign-up page you're sent to, and read the current terms there before you apply.

How much does the Etsy affiliate program pay?
Etsy doesn't publish a single rate. Its policy says commission rates are determined case by case and can vary with your site type, the type of purchase and your content, and that Etsy can adjust rates at its discretion. You'll see your rate after you apply.
How the commission is calculated is public:
- Order price only. Commission is paid on the order price, excluding shipping costs and tax or VAT.
- No commission on reversals. Cancelled, refunded or returned orders, and chargebacks, earn nothing.
- Last click wins. If a shopper clicks several affiliate links, the last one before the sale gets the credit. If the last click was a paid ad, such as a Google search ad, the sale doesn't count.
- Validation takes time. The help center says commissions appear in Rakuten within 24 to 48 hours, but payout waits until Etsy's return window closes, which it puts at 7 to 14 days. The affiliates page says commissions are normally validated 30 days after the sale.
Example (hypothetical): your wedding blog links a $120 set of hand-lettered signs plus $15 shipping. If your rate were 4%, you'd earn 4% of $120, or $4.80, not of $135. If the buyer cancels, you earn nothing.
How do you join the Etsy affiliate program?
Pick the track, check that your channel qualifies, then apply for your region and wait for review.
- Choose the right track. Website or blog traffic means Affiliates; mostly social traffic means Creator Collective.
- Check eligibility. You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live if higher, and publish your own content on an authorized channel: an approved website, or public Instagram, Facebook, YouTube or TikTok accounts, among others.
- Apply for your region. The sign-up page lists regions such as the US, UK and Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and several European, Asian and Latin American groups. Etsy's team supports English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
- Declare your Etsy shops. Sellers can join, but must tell Etsy's affiliate team which shops they own or are closely connected to.
- Wait for review. Etsy evaluates site type, quality, content variety, brand identity and alignment with its values, and can ask for more information.
What does Etsy's affiliate policy ban?
More than most retail programs. Breaking these rules can get you suspended and cost you your commissions.
| Banned or restricted | What the policy says |
|---|---|
| AI-generated images | Not allowed, nor social profiles that rely on AI for interaction or engagement |
| Paid social ads | You can't run ads on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and similar platforms with your affiliate link as the call to action |
| Paid search | No bidding on "Etsy" or misspellings, no Etsy trademarks in ad copy, no linking PPC traffic directly to Etsy |
| Private channels | No links in closed groups or private messages such as WhatsApp or iMessage |
| Reused seller photos | Seller images can't be shared on sites like Pinterest and Tumblr; content there must be your own |
| Coupons | Only codes issued through the affiliate platform, with expiration dates shown |
| Site types | Cashback, voucher, price-comparison, dropshipping, forum sites and sites that exist mainly to promote Etsy items need explicit permission or are excluded |
Disclosure is required too. The policy asks you to disclose your relationship clearly and close to the communication, for example with "ad" or "advertising" before each affiliate link, and to follow the FTC's guides in the US and the advertising codes in the UK. For channel-by-channel wording, see how to promote affiliate links.
Can Etsy sellers be Etsy affiliates?
Yes, and they can earn on sales from any shop, including their own. That makes the affiliate track different from Share & Save, Etsy's seller program, which rewards sellers only for sales they bring to their own shop.
The trade-off is disclosure and paperwork: you must declare your shops when you apply, tell the affiliate team about any shop you open later, and you can't register through a sub-network if you're both a seller and an affiliate. If you're weighing whether to sell on Etsy yourself instead of promoting other shops, our look at whether selling on Etsy is worth it runs the numbers.
How do you promote Etsy items well?
Curate. Etsy's strength is unique, handmade and vintage items, so your value is finding the right ones for a specific reader.
- Gift guides for a narrow person. "Gifts for a new gardener under $50" beats "best Etsy gifts."
- Theme and style roundups. Wedding decor by color palette, cottagecore kitchen finds, personalized pet items.
- Use your own photos and words. The policy bans AI images and reposting seller photos on Pinterest, so photograph items you bought or describe them in your own voice.
- Check links often. One-of-a-kind and vintage listings sell out. Dead links frustrate readers and earn nothing.
- Use the full cookie. A 30-day window on the website rewards guides people bookmark and come back to, which suits blogs better than fast-moving feeds.
Results depend on your audience and how consistently you publish, and most beginners earn little at first.
Is the Etsy affiliate program worth it?
It's worth it if your audience already shops for handmade, personalized or vintage items and you can publish original curation regularly. It's a weaker fit if your traffic depends on paid ads or reposted images, both of which the rules restrict.
Etsy works well alongside a general retail program. If you also recommend everyday products, our best affiliate programs for beginners comparison covers stores with simpler, published rate tables.
