How to Make Money on Facebook: Every Real Option

How to earn money online on Facebook in 2026: Content Monetization, Stars, subscriptions, brand deals, Marketplace and services, with Meta's rules.

By Updated 7 min read

Quick summary (TL;DR)

  • You can earn money online on Facebook through Meta's creator programs, brand deals, selling on Marketplace, or offering services to businesses you meet through Facebook.
  • Facebook Content Monetization pays for eligible reels, videos, photos and text posts, but as of 2026 it is invite-only and you can only express interest from your Professional Dashboard.
  • Stars need 500 followers for 30 consecutive days and pay 1 cent per Star; subscriptions need 10,000 followers or 250 or more return viewers plus engagement or watch-time thresholds.
  • Without an audience, the realistic routes are selling items on Marketplace and selling services such as social media help to local businesses.
  • Meta removes monetization from accounts that repeatedly repost other people's content, and anyone selling a shortcut into monetization is a red flag.

You can earn money online on Facebook in four main ways: Meta's creator programs (Content Monetization, Stars and subscriptions), brand deals, selling items on Marketplace, and selling services to businesses you meet on Facebook. How to earn money online on Facebook depends mostly on whether you already have an audience, because Meta's creator programs have eligibility thresholds and the other routes don't.

This guide lists every real option, what Meta requires for each as of 2026, how the money actually reaches you and which ones make sense for a beginner. It also covers the Facebook money scams that target people searching for exactly this.

What are the real ways to earn money on Facebook?

There are two groups: options where Meta or fans pay you for content, and options where Facebook is simply where you find buyers. The first group needs followers; the second needs a product or a skill.

OptionWho pays youMain requirement (as of 2026)Realistic for a beginner?

Our view: if you're starting from zero, begin with Marketplace or a service, and post content on the side only if you enjoy it. If Facebook is one of several ideas you're weighing, our guide to making money online for beginners helps you compare it with other paths before you commit time.

How does Facebook Content Monetization work?

Facebook Content Monetization is Meta's main program for paying creators from their content. Meta says it combines its earlier in-stream ads, ads on reels and performance bonus programs into one, and pays for eligible reels, longer videos, photos and text posts based on their views and engagement.

Who can join

As of 2026, the program is invite-only. Meta's March 2026 Creator Fast Track announcement says creators can express interest through their Professional Dashboard, but expressing interest is not the same as being accepted. Your account and content also have to meet Meta's Partner Monetization Policies and Content Monetization Policies, and payouts require completing Meta's payout setup.

What Meta pays for, and what it doesn't

  • Original content gets paid. Meta has said reaction videos, commentary and trends with your own take are welcome.
  • Reposting gets punished. In July 2025, Meta said accounts that repeatedly reuse other creators' videos, photos or text posts without meaningful changes lose access to monetization programs for a period of time and see reduced reach on everything they post.
  • Earnings vary widely. Meta doesn't publish a fixed rate per view, so be skeptical of anyone who quotes one.

What about Creator Fast Track?

Creator Fast Track is aimed at people who are already established elsewhere. Meta says it requires at least 100,000 followers on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, and offers a fixed monthly payment for three months for posting eligible reels on Facebook, as of March 2026. It's not a route for beginners, but it shows where Meta's money is going: reels from creators who already have an audience.

How do Facebook Stars and subscriptions pay?

Both let fans pay you directly, with Meta handling the payment.

Stars

Fans buy Stars and send them during live videos, reels and other content. Meta says creators earn 1 cent for every Star they receive, as of 2026. To be eligible, you need 500 followers for at least 30 consecutive days, must live in a country where Stars is available, and must follow Meta's Community Standards and Partner Monetization Policies.

Example (hypothetical): during a live stream, viewers send 2,000 Stars in total. That's $20 to you, before any taxes, once you reach Meta's payout minimum.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are monthly payments from fans in exchange for extras such as exclusive posts, lives or a supporter badge. Meta lists these thresholds, as of 2026: 10,000 followers or 250 or more return viewers, plus either 50,000 post engagements or 180,000 watch minutes in the last 60 days. Subscriptions are open to Pages in a list of countries that includes the US, UK, Canada and Australia; elsewhere they're invitation-only.

Check Meta's current pages for the share Meta and app stores keep, because it depends on how the fan pays.

Can you get paid for brand deals on Facebook?

Yes. Branded content is a post you create for a brand that pays you or sends you free products. Meta requires you to tag these posts with the Paid partnership label, and to be eligible for the branded content tool you need to manage a Page or use professional mode on your profile and follow Meta's Branded Content Policies.

Brands usually look for a clear niche and an engaged audience rather than raw follower counts. Meta's Creator Marketplace is one place brands search for creators, on Facebook and Instagram; our guide on how to make money on Instagram covers Instagram's own requirements. In the US, the FTC also expects clear disclosure of paid relationships, which our guide to becoming a UGC creator explains along with how to get paid for brand videos without needing followers at all.

Is selling on Facebook Marketplace worth it?

For beginners, Marketplace is often the most practical way to make money on Facebook, because buyers are already there and you don't need followers. It works best for furniture, appliances, bikes and other bulky items that are expensive to ship.

The one rule to know before your first sale: Facebook's Help Center says local pickup and peer-to-peer payments aren't covered by Purchase Protection, which applies only to purchases made with shipping or checkout on Facebook. Shipped checkout orders carry a Meta selling fee, so check Meta's current fee page before you price. Can you make money on Facebook without followers?

Yes, by treating Facebook as a place to find clients rather than an audience. Small businesses run much of their marketing through Facebook Pages and local groups, and many owners don't have time to keep up with it.

Services you can sell

  • Page management: scheduling posts, replying to comments and messages, updating hours and offers.
  • Content for the Page: photos, short videos or graphics made with free tools.
  • Group moderation: keeping a community or customer group tidy and on topic.
  • Admin support: answering inquiries and booking appointments, which is how many people start as a virtual assistant.

How to find the first client

Look at local businesses whose Pages haven't posted in months, or whose reviews and messages go unanswered. Send a short, specific message offering one small fixed-price task. Many won't reply; that's normal. In the US, this is self-employment income, and self-employment tax applies once net earnings reach $400 in a year.

Which Facebook money scams should you avoid?

Searches about making money on Facebook attract scammers. The most common patterns:

  • Paid "monetization unlock" services that promise to get your Page approved. Access comes from Meta, not a third party.
  • Selling or buying pages and followers. This breaks Meta's rules and can get the account restricted.
  • Fake job posts in groups offering high pay for liking posts or reviewing products, then asking for a deposit or "training fee." The FTC says honest employers never ask you to pay to get a job.
  • Fake Meta messages saying your Page will be deleted unless you log in through a link. Check alerts only inside Facebook's own settings.

Before you reply to any offer, run through our checklist on how to tell if an online job is a scam.

The honest summary: Facebook pays creators who already have an audience, and it helps everyone else find buyers and clients.

Frequently asked questions

How many followers do you need to get paid on Facebook?

It depends on the program. Stars require 500 followers for at least 30 consecutive days, subscriptions require 10,000 followers or 250 or more return viewers plus engagement thresholds, and Content Monetization is invite-only with no public follower number that ensures entry.

How much does Facebook pay per Star?

Meta says creators earn 1 cent for every Star a fan sends, as of 2026. You also need to complete payout setup before Meta pays you.

Can you make money on Facebook without followers?

Yes, but not from Meta's creator programs. Selling items on Marketplace and offering paid services to businesses you find on Facebook don't depend on your follower count.

Does Facebook pay for reposted videos?

No. Meta said in 2025 that accounts that repeatedly reuse other creators' videos, photos or text posts lose access to monetization programs for a period of time and get reduced distribution.

Is it legit when someone offers to unlock Facebook monetization for a fee?

Treat it as a scam. Monetization access comes from Meta's own eligibility checks and invitations, and buying followers or pages breaks Meta's rules and can cost you the account.
